Turn to CSECO’s Buster If You Want the Best Density Meter

Turn to the Buster density meter if your job requires you to locate concealed cash, drugs, weapons or radioactive materials. The Buster is considered by many to be the best density meter on the market. Others who have used the Buster K910B density meter have called it the ‘gold standard’ of available density meters.

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) began making the Buster K910B density meter in the early 1980s. The company founder, Patrick J. Campbell, was approached by the government to design equipment able to locate contraband such as illegal drugs or cash using radioactive isotopes. Working closely with the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Buster was designed to be easy for anyone to use, even those who are uncomfortable with today’s new technology.

How does the Buster work and what does it do better than the competition? The Buster provides a quick scan of any material by emitting low-intensity gamma radiation. It detects differences in the density of the materials being scanned and indicates whether there are voids behind the surface. Users receive both an audible signal when discrepancies are located as well as a visual readout on the hand-held device.

Other companies make detection devices, but they have limitations such as using radio waves, microwaves or ultra-violet waves to scan. Professionals who have been able to use the Buster and other manufacturer’s equipment feel the Buster’s use of radio isotopes to scan is much more effective in providing accurate results. And Buster scans through most types of metal, reinforced plastics and wood.

The Buster also provides results quicker than many of its competitors. Law enforcement agents can scan a room within 10 minutes to determine if contraband is present. Vehicles can be scanned within 5 minutes; larger vehicles may take slightly longer to scan. By using the optional telescoping handle, CBP agents and law enforcement officers are able to scan the tops and tall sides of semi trucks.

What items can be located using the Buster K910B density meter?

  • Narcotics or other drugs
  • Cash
  • Weapons
  • Cigarettes
  • Dirty bombs or other explosives
  • Any item which is hidden within a concealed compartment

As an added benefit, the Buster is equipped with Rad-Aware® technology. This allows US Customs and Border Protection, foreign Customs agents and local law enforcement to detect radioactive materials. First responders will be also able to detect the presence of radioactive materials to determine if an area is safe to enter or if they need to move residents away from a spill or possible dirty bomb.
