Narcotics Detection Using Buster and Perfect Vision V20

Narcotics Detection Using Buster and Perfect Vision V20

Law enforcement and border patrol agents use narcotics detection equipment regularly to keep narcotics and other contraband from reaching the streets. Narcotics are drugs that are made or derived from opium, whether through natural or synthetic preparation. Apart from opium, other examples of narcotics include morphine, heroin, codeine, hydrocodone, fentanyl, meperidine, nalbuphine, and many others.

Like many other drugs, narcotics can be abused especially if they land in the wrong hands. Many people make a business out of selling narcotics, despite their knowledge that they’re illegal. And since narcotics are illegal, people smuggle them in and out of the country and around the country to transport them.

Contraband and narcotics detection hasn’t always been available. Many years before there the technology to detect and track down hidden contraband was available, officers often could not determine if someone was smuggling narcotics in hidden locations of their the vehicle. They only had their hands and primitive tools to help in the search, or pure luck to help them positively locate the presence of narcotics. Law enforcement knew this was not an effective way to keep illegal drugs from reaching the streets.

The Buster K910B is the flagship product of Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO). It’s the result of the close collaboration between CSECO founder Patrick J. Campbell and the US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) agents who came to him asking him to develop an easy-to-use tool to detect hidden contraband. This was during the mid-1980s. Campbell wanted to design a contraband detection equipment with the end users in mind. He wanted to be sure it was not complicated for them to operate. Since the Buster K910B came out, it has been widely used by many law enforcement agencies, interdiction officers, and the US CBP agents themselves. These officers consider the Buster to be the “gold standard” when choosing contraband equipment.

The Buster K910B Contraband Detector, aka Buster, uses a low-intensity gamma radiation that is safe around humans and animals, such as the sniffing dogs from the K9 units. This type of technology is superior for measuring the density of an object when compared to other technologies like radioactive, ultraviolet wave, and microwave. With the low-intensity gamma radiation technology, it enables agents to scan objects without having to destroy them.

With the Buster, agents can scan an average-sized room and produce positive results in less than ten minutes, and an average-sized vehicle in less than five minutes. To scan harder-to-reach areas such as the underside or top of a truck, they can also use the Buster-on-a-Stick, a telescoping pole that is attached to the Buster.

Unlike other contraband and narcotic detection tools on the market, the Buster is user-friendly. When it detects an abnormal change in density, it is likely that hidden narcotics are present. To alert the agents of possible contraband, the Buster produces an audible alarm. It also has a clear liquid crystal display (LCD) reader that is easy to read and is a clear indication whether narcotics or contraband are present.

Often agents have used the Buster and need a secondary or more in-depth inspection; they need to search through more inaccessible areas such as the fuel tank, in the recesses of a dashboard, or in the doors of vehicles. CSECO has a tool that is perfect for this task.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System is a one-piece inspection tool that will outperform other videoscopes and fiberscopes sold today. Like most fiberscopes, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope has some similar features like the long, thin shaft (2m x 6mm) which is protected by a tungsten coating. The shaft is so thin that it can be snaked into narrow and normally unreachable areas such spaces between walls, behind dashboards, and vehicle doors.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope also has 2-way articulation, a powerful built-in LED lighting, and a rechargeable battery which lasts up to six hours. It also has push-button photo and video capture capability as well as a slot for SD card storage. This allows the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope to save up to 8,000 photographs or six hours of video evidence without the need for bothersome wire attachments. You may also purchase additional battery packs to have on-hand to keep your videoscope available when the battery is being recharged.

However, what differs the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope from all other videoscopes and fiberscopes is that it’s not made of glass fibers. This means the CSECO Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope is less susceptible to damage and breakage even with frequent use which reduces the need for repairs.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope is also the first videoscope certified safe by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL), the world’s leading authority on product safety. Thus, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope can be used in hazardous locations, including gasoline and fuel tanks. The videoscope also is water- and fuel-proof, so it can be used anywhere liquids are present.

When CSECO’s Buster K910B Density Meter and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System are used together, agents are assured of quick inspections that will bring them positive narcotics detection results. The Buster is known for being dependable, accurate, and durable. The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope has these qualities and is also guaranteed safe to use.
